There has been a vast deal of research on the effect of mindfulness on relief of anxiety and stress, and also have been an increasing number of therapeutic approaches using mindfulness as a therapeutic process. Therefore, we verified whether mindfulness mediate the effect of anxiety sensitivity-a typical predisposition of anxiety-on anxiety, through which this research intended to make clear the effect mechanism of mindfulness on anxiety. The symptom related to anxiety and level of mindfulness were measured from 170 general adults using Anxiety Sensitivity Index, Korean-Kentucky Inventory of mindfulness skills, Spielberger¡¯s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Symptom Checklist-90-Revision. This study verified the mediating effect of mindfulness on anxiety through Baron & Kenny¡¯s hierarchical multiple regression analysis model, and the results are as follows: First, Mindfulness-accepting, mindfulness-acting with awareness, and mindfulness-describing were found to partially mediate the influence of anxiety-sensitivity on state anxiety and obsession. In contrast, in case of fear, the mindfulness-observing, which induces a person to pay attention to a stimulus such as the presently experiencing physical sensation, etc., was found to partially mediate the influence of anxiety-sensitivity on fear. Finally, clinical implications and limitations of the study were discussed with some suggestions for future research.
